Charming listeners from the Philharmonie de Paris to Carnegie Hall in New York and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the charming French cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras always finds time to play with Sinfonietta Rīga as well. Together with Latvian musicians, Queyras has already leafed through the partitions of the most famous Viennese classics and avant-garde pioneers, but for the first time under the leadership of Olari Elts, the harmonious partners in playing turn their joint forces to exploring French romanticism.

The diversity of this program is characterized by both the refined melodist Gabriel Fauré's Elegy and the lyrical musical art of his teacher and close friend Camille Saint-Saëns. Belonging to the golden repertoire of French music are both Saint-Saëns' virtuosic Cello Concerto and the harmoniously charming early symphonies inspired by Viennese classics. Meanwhile, the contemporary French multitalent Thierry Escaich, who among other things is known not only as a composer but also as the organist of the Notre-Dame de Paris, has woven Beethovenian elements into his partition.
