For over a thousand years, pilgrims have walked the Camino de Santiago, one of the oldest and most significant pilgrimage routes in Europe leading to the Cathedral of Saint James in Santiago de Compostela, Spain. However, this has never been merely a geographical destination, but a story of a person's inner journey—endurance, doubt, hope, and transformation. On the road, not only the destination matters, but everything experienced along the way. Just like on a true pilgrimage, every listener here is invited to find their own path.

British composer Joby Talbot’s monumental a cappella opus "Path of Miracles" (2005) is one of the most remarkable contemporary choral masterpieces. The opus consists of four parts named after the significant stopping points of the final section of the Camino de Santiago - Camino Francés (French Way): Roncesvalles, Burgos, León, and Santiago. Each of them reveals not only a specific section of the road but also the spiritual transformation of the pilgrim.

Librettist Robert Dickinson used texts from medieval pilgrim hymns (Codex Calixtinus) and liturgical sources, intertwining them with modern poetry. In the composition, alongside Latin, Greek, Basque, Spanish, French, German, and English are heard, reminding us that the Way of Saint James has united people from all over Europe for centuries.

Talbot creates an unusually rich sound world using only the human voice. Seventeen independent voice lines, diverse vocal techniques, spatial choir arrangement, and a continuous sense of movement turn the choir and listeners into a single organism depicting the pilgrims' journey. Voices become a multicolored instrument—sometimes imitating bells, sometimes wind or distant echoes, creating the impression that the listener is on the road themselves.
