Ekspozīcija "Livonijas pilis"

The exhibition "Livonijas pilis" tells about the Livonian period (13th–16th centuries) and the castles built during this time, revealing one of the most significant layers of Latvia's medieval cultural and historical heritage. The exhibition offers an opportunity to get to know castles as a multi-layered world – both as military structures and centres of power, and as living and dynamic spaces of medieval society.

The exhibition is set up in an authentic environment – in the 14th-century vaulted cellars of Rīgas pils with impressive architecture. Technically, the new exhibition is designed as a contemporary interior installation that separates the historical heritage from the present day: the masonry walls and vaults are preserved untouched, displaying the historical interior, while the floor made of polymer concrete is raised like a levitating path that leads the visitor through various themes of the story of Livonian castles.
