Zīmējumu izstāde “Iemiesotā doma”
18. Jul – 8. Nov· Latvijas Nacionālais mākslas muzejs, Rīga
Jaņa Rozentāla laukums 1
This is the first overview of such scope dedicated to artistic drawing in Latvia, offering an introduction to an old graphic technique as an independent form of creative self-expression and to authors in whose practice drawing occupies a special place.
The exhibition's concept is based on the relationship between drawing and thinking, emphasizing drawing's ability to provide an empathetic experience and encouraging viewers to come closer to the artist's world of ideas.
The exposition features 97 artists from various generations – starting with Johans Kristofs Broce and representatives of classical art, continuing with authorities of contemporary art, and concluding with authors born in the 1990s. The broad chronological range, through the personal and fragile technique of drawing, allows one to trace the development of Latvian art up to the present day. Drawing today is a highly relevant medium, and despite rapidly advancing digital technologies, several artists still highly value analogue drawing – a direct and tactile means of expression closely linked to materiality, the movement of the hand, and the scale of the body.
