Izstāde “Laikmetīgais zīmējums: Floransas un Daniela Gerlēnu dāvinājumi Pompidū centram”
25. Jul – 1. Nov· Latvijas Nacionālais mākslas muzejs, Rīga
Jaņa Rozentāla laukums 1
The exhibition is an internationally significant and artistically outstanding collaboration project between the Latvian National Museum of Art (LNMM) and the Centre Pompidou. The works included in the exposition come from a collection that collectors and art patrons Florence et Daniel Guerlain have donated to the Centre Pompidou over the past twenty years.
The Guerlain collection is thematically diverse and has a distinctly contemporary character. From the large donation of nearly 1200 works, 98 drawings by 43 artists, created from the 1970s to 2019, have been selected for the exhibition in Riga.
The exhibition provides an insight into the experience of contemporary drawing. The works are mostly emotional, yet an analytical and rational approach is also sometimes visible. From airy lines to reality-based compositions – the artists' touches of pencil, graphite, ink, gouache, watercolour and other materials create worlds that can be both fragile and firmly constructed.
