Multimediāla pētnieciska izstāde "Kā tu šodien jūties? Emociju pratība"
2. Jul – 13. Sep· Rīgas Laikmetīgās mākslas telpa, Rīga
Kungu iela 3
The exhibition is dedicated to doctor Ilze Aizsilniece (1966–2025), who passed away last year. It continues the conversation initiated by her about the importance of emotions in human life, inviting to look at them through the prism of art, science, medicine, and personal experience.
Emotions affect our choices, relationships, physical and mental health, as well as the ability to live with others and ourselves. They also determine how we perceive the world and make decisions. Art in this project becomes a way to experience, recognize, and understand emotions.
“It is often difficult to talk about emotions directly. Art approaches them differently - even before words, helping to see what we are not always able to admit to ourselves or formulate. Emotions are our reaction to what is happening in the world, so it is especially important to be able to recognize, understand, accept, and direct them,” say the exhibition curators Una Meistere and Daiga Rudzāte.
The story of the exposition will be formed by the works of 28 Latvian artists. Its focus of attention is the six so-called basic emotions – fear, anger, joy, sadness, disgust, and surprise – which, based on the theory of the world-renowned American psychologist Paul Ekman, are considered universal and significant in the course of human evolution.
In parallel, Jelena Glazova's exhibition "Man Named Universe" can be viewed in the Small Hall. The exhibition is the artist's act of feminist partisanism in the symbolic territory of contemporary phallocracy. Conjured up halfway between painting and graphics, the suggestive images of Glazova's watercolors overturn the myth of male biological superiority.
