The Latvian Writers' Union in cooperation with the Riga Central Library invites to poetry author evenings in August and September.

From August 6 to September 17, well-known Latvian poets will visit seven RCB branch libraries with readings – Anna Auziņa, Māra Ulme, Kārlis Vērdiņš, Ilmārs Šlāpins, Aivars Eipurs, Agnese Rutkēviča, Arvis Viguls.

We invite everyone interested to a meeting with the authors – it will be an opportunity to listen to poetry readings, get to know the authors' creative world and engage in conversations about literature and poetry.

Program

The events are organized by the Latvian Writers' Union with the financial support of the State Culture Capital Foundation. Their course is supported by the Riga municipality.

Poetry author evenings are part of the annual festival “Dzejas dienas 2026”. The first event will take place already on August 6 at the RCB branch library “Daugava”. The official opening of the festival will take place on August 28. In turn, the Poetry Days Award will be presented at the official closing event of the festival at the National Library of Latvia on September 12.

Poetry days have been taking place all over Latvia since 1965. This year the motto of Poetry Days is “Dzeja dzied!”, prompting to think about the fact that poetry has been present in human life since time immemorial, when poetry and music were an inseparable whole, in which rhythm and word served as a united language. In these Poetry Days, we invite you to follow rhythmic and inspiring poetry that is not only readable, but also listenable, poetry with and without musical accompaniment, poetry to listen to and to hear.
