The ballet action takes place in Riga at the end of the 19th century - here the atmosphere of the city's ancient lanes is felt, interiors created in Art Nouveau style, plant motifs and effective contrasts can be found: it is winter outside, but flowers are blooming indoors. Fir tree decorations, toys come to life, and little Maria's dreams about her Prince begin to come true. Everything happens just as befits a Christmas night...
