"American Jazz Evening" at Spīķeri Concert Hall – a concert series of the Latvian Radio Big Band, whose focus is the homeland of jazz music, the USA, highlighting the legends of jazz, especially big band music.

Award-winning young generation Czech composer and trumpeter Jiří Kotača founded the big band “Cotatcha Orchestra” (Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria) ten years ago with the vision of performing unusual and original big band music. Starting with pieces by legendary world-famous authors (Igor Stravinsky, Gil Evans, etc.) to contemporary Czech works for big band and collaborations with such outstanding foreign guests as Ilja Reijngoud, Marc Vilaseca, Mirna Bogdanović, or Daniel Caccia. Alongside works by the finalists of the Latvian Radio Big Band and Jāzep Vītols Latvian Academy of Music Big Band Composition Competition, Jiří Kotača, together with the Latvian Radio Big Band, will perform his original works to listeners, marking the current topicalities in modern big band composition.
