Like every year, this year too during the winter solstice in Town Hall Square, Old Riga, the celebration of the winter solstice will take place - log dragging and burning, joint singing, dancing, and round dances.

Log dragging route: Rātslaukums–Grēcinieku iela–Audēju iela–Vaļņu iela–Kaļķu iela–Līvu laukums–Zirgu iela–Doma laukums–Jauniela–Rātslaukums.

Participants of folklore groups and holiday visitors drag logs through the entire old town during this holiday to, according to ancient Latvian traditions, drive away evil spirits, promote fertility, and bring a blessing to the city and its inhabitants. Afterwards, they are burned in a bonfire in Town Hall Square, simultaneously burning the old year, the "evil days" - sorrows, hardships, and misfortunes, thus creating the power of light for the coming year.
