On Sunday, September 13, honoring the role of the father in the family, Father's Day will be celebrated in Riga with various events – concerts, masterclasses, creative workshops, a procession and other family-friendly activities.

Father's Day Procession and Festival

The Father's Day procession and festival organized by the Latvian Parents Organization will take place in the center of Riga for the thirteenth time. The Father's Day procession will start at 12.00 near the Freedom Monument and end in Vērmanes Garden, where families will be welcomed with concerts, creative, sports and educational activities until 16.00. The main artists of this year's concert will be the humor-rock band “Pirmais kurss”, the alternative music band for big and small children “BikiGRUPA” and the rock band “Pienvedēja piedzīvojumi”.

Gathering for the Father's Day procession at the Freedom Monument will start already at 11.00. During the gathering at Freedom Square, the inauguration of the National Armed Forces (NAF) State Defense Service soldiers into the ranks of the honor guard will also take place. Music will be performed by Jānis Aišpurs, the National Guard dance ensemble “Bramaņi”, the National Guard choir “Stars”, the National Guard orchestra and the mixed choir “Lins”.

At 12.00, the traditional Father's Day procession will begin, heading from the Freedom Monument along Freedom Street (Brīvības iela) to Vērmanes Garden. Families with children, fathers, expectant parents, grandparents, groups of friends, work collectives and anyone who wants to celebrate Father's Day together are invited to join the procession.

Simultaneously, throughout the territory of Vērmanes Garden, dozens of activity points will operate, which will be engaging and exciting for children of various ages, as well as adults – in the festival area, there will be an opportunity to get acquainted with the daily life of State Defense Service soldiers, view soldier equipment, sit in an all-terrain vehicle, try on the honor guard uniform and take a picture by the large-format Latvian flag.

Event “Father's Day Celebration” at M/darbnīca

Meanwhile, in the premises, terrace and courtyard of the cultural space “M/darbnīca” at A. Briāna iela 9 from 11.00 to 22.00, the association “Creative Development Space” invites you to an event where creativity, movement and the power of a father will meet. This day will be dedicated to being together and the importance of a father in a child's life.

The program includes DJ Eduards Švāns's Father's Day music selection, attractions in the Briāna courtyard, “Jazz for Kids” improvisations with the Sebra family, and a fathers' jam session. At 17.00, the City Jazz Riga big band led by Kārlis Vanags will perform, and at the end of the evening at 18.00, one of fathers' favorite bands – the legendary “Pērkons” – will perform.

Throughout the day, the M/Darbnīca bar will offer children waffles, pancakes and delicious lemonades. The environment will be adapted for persons with mobility impairments – access to the concert and outdoor activities, seating and support will be provided if necessary.

Let's celebrate Father's Day in Brasa!

On September 13 on Hospitāļu iela, in the section from Upes iela to Zirņu iela, the family festival “Dad – our strength!” will take place, inviting fathers, children and the whole family to spend time together and try their hand at various tasks, explore, engage creatively and end the evening with live music.

The festival will take place from 16.00 to 22.00, and its program is designed so that every family member has the opportunity to find a suitable activity. At the festival opening from 16.00 to 16.30, the children's dance collective “Teiksmiņa” will perform, dedicating a special performance to fathers. At the center of the festival's active zone will be the “Dad can do everything!” tournament, where fathers will be able to compete in various tasks. Prizes from the festival's cooperation partners are also planned for tournament participants.

While fathers compete in the tournament, children will have the opportunity to participate in a wide program of activities.

In the family and togetherness zone from 16.00 to 18.00, “Dad teaches!” will take place – an activity where fathers and children can work and learn together.

Throughout the day, the educational activity “Take apart and discover” by the social enterprise “Ideal Mistakes hub” will be available, where children together with parents will be able to take apart and assemble electrical appliances in the presence of a safety officer.
