LIELĀ VASARAS IZSTĀDE 2026 GALERIJĀ MANS`S
15. Jul – 31. Oct09:00· Galerija MANS`S, Jēkabpils
Brīvības iela 154, Jēkabpils
In mid-July I visited the Great Summer Exhibition at the Mans’s gallery in Jēkabpils. Over thirty-five years of operation, the gallery has built a tradition that has become one of the most significant annual events in Latvian painting. Authors of different generations come together in one place – both artists whose contribution already occupies a lasting place in the history of Latvian art and those who are still confidently shaping their creative path. The works of nearly a hundred painters reveal the diversity of Latvian painting and its continuous development.
Especially noteworthy is the curatorial solution of the exposition. The works are not simply placed in the space in search of a play of colours or materials. They form a finely felt visual dramaturgy where each author's voice organically resonates with the next. The exposition reads much like a poem or a work of prose – with its own rhythm, pauses, culminations and moments of silence.
This is not an exhibition solely about the beauty of painting. Alongside the brilliance of colours, one encounters sadness, tension, fragility and depth of reflection. It is precisely this emotional multi-layeredness that makes the exposition a unified and convincing narrative where each work retains its individuality while becoming part of a shared conversation about contemporary Latvian painting.
