“One for all, all for one.” More than a century and a half after Alexandre Dumas' novel was written, the musketeers' oath remains one of the most recognizable symbols of friendship and loyalty. “The Three Musketeers” is a story about ideals, courage and choice, about the ability to remain faithful to oneself and one's people in a world where everything is constantly changing.
In 2026, the year of Imants Kalniņš' 85th anniversary, the Chekhov Theatre returns to this musical heritage anew. In the new production, I. Kalniņš' music acquires a new sound, where the past meets the present, romanticism meets irony, and youthful maximalism meets experience. The musketeers' story also asks questions relevant today: what does friendship mean in a world that is becoming increasingly individualistic? What is honor in modern daily life? Is it possible to remain loyal at a time when it is so easy to change sides? And can love still change a person and the world?
The Chekhov Theatre production is also based on Andrejs Migla's dramatization. Imants Kalniņš' music in the new show is arranged by Evilena Protektore, while Viktor Kalniņš' lyrics in Russian have been adapted by poet Sergei Timofeyev.
