In cooperation with the Health Centre “Vivendi”, we invite single-parent families to participate in a free online lecture series “Mazā komanda, lielais spēks”.

In the lecture series, five sessions will explore topics related to child development, parent well-being, mutual relationships, conflict resolution, boundaries, as well as career and financial decisions. It is possible to register for individual lectures or the entire series of five lectures.

The sessions will be led by clinical and health psychologist Kristiāna Kalniņa:

“In my work, I often meet parents who are raising children alone or separated from the other parent. Such everyday life means twice as much work, responsibilities, and sometimes more energy depletion, anxiety, and responsibility for parents. This lecture series was created with the aim of supporting parents so that they can not only provide safety and stability for the child, but also maintain their own strength, health, and balance.”

30 September at 18.30-19.45 | “Bērna attīstība viena vecāka ģimenē”

The lecture will provide knowledge about the peculiarities of child development when growing up in a single-parent family and the importance of the parent's role in child development. It will examine how to support the child's emotional, social, and cognitive development at different age stages, as well as the situation of single-parent families in Latvia and the world.

Participants will learn about possible risk factors, including loneliness, parental overload, and unclear boundaries, as well as protective factors – stable routine, secure attachment, and an accessible support network.

7 October at 18.30-19.45 | “Konflikti un sadarbība”

The lecture will offer the opportunity to acquire practical skills for constructive conflict resolution and building healthy cooperation with the child and the other parent.

It will explain why conflicts arise and intensify, how to distinguish conflict from emotional violence, use “I-messages”, active listening, and boundary setting, as well as build cooperation with the other parent, keeping the child's interests at the centre.

21 October at 18.30-19.45 | “Vecāka labsajūta un veselība”

The lecture will be dedicated to the parent's mental and physical health. It will discuss overload, guilt, and isolation, signs of stress and burnout, as well as opportunities to take care of one's well-being in everyday life.

The importance of sleep, nutrition, physical activities, and supportive people will be examined, as well as ways to create a balance between the child's and the parent's needs.

28 October at 18.30–19.45 | “Drošas un cieņpilnas attiecības un robežas”

The lecture will examine the importance of relationship quality in shaping the child's ideas about mutual relationships, as well as emotional, physical, and digital boundaries between parent and child.

It will also discuss forming new relationships after divorce and their possible impact on the child. Participants will learn how to recognize signs of a dependent relationship and help the child learn respectful communication.

11 November at 18.30-19.45 | “Psiholoģiskā drošība, karjeras izvēles un finanšu lēmumi”

The lecture will help better understand the psychological factors that influence attitudes towards money, work, career, and stability.

It will discuss the influence of early experiences and family beliefs on financial decisions, fear of scarcity, guilt, and the impact of stress on decision-making. It will also examine the importance of self-esteem and professional identity, perfectionism and fear of mistakes, maintaining motivation in the long term, the parent's role in shaping the child's attitude towards money and responsibility, as well as strengthening psychological resilience.
