Benjamiņa Ancāna karikatūru izstāde “Mazie jociņi” no Latgales Kultūrvēstures muzeja krājuma

➤ Commemorating the 100th birth anniversary of exile artist Benjamiņš Ancāns (1926-1974), which will be marked this September, the Latgale Culture History Museum offers the opportunity to explore a selection of his drawn caricatures in an enlarged format. Only nine original ink drawings by B. Ancāns are kept in the LKM art collection, but there are many more reproductions, reaching 80 units. B. Ancāns called his witty and self-ironic caricatures "little jokes" and signed them with the name Benis. In 2003, LKM published B. Ancāns' caricature book "Mazie jociņi", as the author himself had previously desired and made preliminary preparations for. This publication brings together all the satirical drawings of Benis available in the museum's collection. The selection of "Mazie jociņi" offered by the museum in the exhibition reveals the diverse graphic techniques and "good-naturedly sharp" pen of B. Ancāns, allowing the viewer to get acquainted with the author's ironically captured characters. One of the series of drawings could be named "People in Animal Skin", where he skillfully managed to give animals human characters. The drawings also often depict a man with large horn-rimmed glasses and a beret, both in emotional moments at the easel and in matters of the heart, as well as in moments of joy and pain, telling so much about himself. This is Benis – Benjamiņš Ancāns.
