Tematiska izstāde “Dzejnieka virtuve un radošā bohēma”

From September 15 to November 28, 2026, a thematic exhibition from the museum's collection materials “Dzejnieka virtuve un radošā bohēma” is on display at the Aleksandra Čaka muzejs.

One of the oldest meeting and thought-exchange places favored by poets and artists was cafes. Ordinary people (cabmen, woodcutters, fishermen, timber rafters) favored the Daugavmala tavern “Enkurs”, where many artists studied types for their artworks. Nearby were also meeting places favored by sailors – “Melnā bumba” and the legendary “Bedre”, where Aleksandrs Čaks found types for his literary works. In the summer of 1928, having returned from his teaching job in Drabeši, he met young artists who introduced the poet into the environment of restaurants and taverns. Čaks liked the atmosphere of cafes and restaurants, where he was among people and at the same time felt aloof from others.

The exhibition, formed from the museum's collection materials, is structured in three parts:

the economic activity of the Čaks family;

cookbooks, recipe notebooks, and the most requested dishes in the memories of the poet's friends;

the history of the most famous Riga restaurants and taverns frequently visited by A. Čaks.

The exhibition features the poet's notes to family members preserved in the museum's collection, photographs from social events among friends, cookbooks collected by the poet's mother, as well as manuscripts reflecting his passion for culinary arts and cooking.
