➤ Why is the sexton (parish teacher and church servant) so angry at the whole world? He is a respected person in the village and the pastor's right hand, whose duties include teaching Bible stories and church hymns to children.

However, his daily life is overshadowed by constant dissatisfaction because the children's mischief challenges his strict sense of order. Therefore, the sexton predicts for them a life full of shattered dreams – exactly the kind he had to live himself: in childhood, his father smashed his violin to pieces, claiming that playing the violin suits only cripples and beggars, not adult men.

➤ Thus the sexton became a church servant, grumpy and full of bitterness. Yet deep in his soul, his childhood violin still plays…

Salme vallateater is an amateur theatre first mentioned in the press in 1901, and has been operating continuously since 1993. Currently, the theatre's repertoire includes 53 productions, as well as another 15 performances created in cooperation with the youth troupe.

Salme vallateater has included dramas and comedies, musicals and monodramas in its repertoire. Large-scale open-air productions are particularly popular with audiences. Over these thirty-three years, 192 amateur actors have participated in the performances. Most of them are local residents who have participated in multiple productions.
