Pārgājiens "Meklējam Sidrabeni Lielaucē"

Sidrabene is historically extremely significant – it was one of the last Semigallian castles, which the Semigallians abandoned at the end of 1289 or the beginning of 1290, after which a considerable part of the Semigallians went to Lithuania. Already in 1865, provost von Rezon and pastors Augusts Bīlenšteins and Bitners in Lielauces pagasts searched for the Semigallian castle "Sidrabben" mentioned in the Livonian Rhymed Chronicle. There is a whole chain of Sudrab- place names: Sudraba birse ("Silberwald"), sudraba kalni ("Silberberge"), the former Sudraba krogs, another sudraba kalns east of Skarre.

On the hike, which will be led by forest expert Māris Vilsons, we will introduce the hypothesis that Sidrabene was located in a wider area than one hillfort, as evidenced by repeated excavations.

The hike on 26 September will start from the MPS fire observation tower in Poču mežs and, depending on choice, will be 3 km, 5-7 km or 15 km long.

We will publish the routes separately, and we will organise transport to the left cars. There will be lunch soup.
