See you on Lamprey Day!
Salacgrīva and Svētciems on 10 October 2026
In autumn, in Salacgrīva and Svētciems we will once again honour our special coastal tradition – the lamprey fishing trade, its masters and, of course, the lampreys themselves!
Lamprey Day is an opportunity to experience in one place what is characteristic of our coast – fishing traditions, stories of local people, the values of the Salaca and Svētupe, delicious local products and being together. It is a day when special attention is paid to lamprey fishing and to the people who still keep this ancient trade alive.
During the event, visitors will be able to get acquainted with lamprey fishing traditions, learn more about the everyday life of fishermen and the secrets of the trade, enjoy lamprey dishes and other local delicacies, as well as meet local entrepreneurs, craftsmen and keepers of fishing traditions.
Alongside lamprey fishing and culinary heritage, the day will also include activities for families, creative pursuits, sporting entertainment, an offering from local producers and craftsmen, and other events that will allow Lamprey Day to be enjoyed by both young and old.
Lamprey Day is an invitation to get to know the fishing heritage of Salacgrīva and Svētciems, to feel the seaside autumn mood and to experience together a day in which traditions meet modern times.
