Miķeļdienas gadatirgus Vecrīgā

Miķeļi is the autumn equinox, when the sun turns towards winter, so day and night are of equal length and astronomical autumn begins. To celebrate this properly, a Miķeļdiena fair is organized, the atmosphere of which will also be complemented by a stage program with songs and dances.

For the farmer, this is an important milestone, the most important field work has been done and the time has come to bring the collected harvest into the spotlight, celebrating the harvest festival. In the market square, the piles of pumpkins, baskets of apples, pears, cranberries and lingonberries grown in Latvian fields will delight the eyes. Housewives will offer homemade jams, cheeses, tempting, shiny pies and freshly baked bread. Everyone will be able to enjoy and buy freshly spun honey, smoked meat, delicious flounders, golden herrings and other fish. Meanwhile, in the craftsmen's tents, it will be possible to find both ethnographic and modern linen products, ceramics, jewelry, wooden spoons and much more.
