Latvijas Orientēšanās nakts Valmierā

On Friday, September 18, Valmiera will be one of 22 Latvian cities hosting the tenth Latvian Orienteering Night – a free three-hour rogaining competition for teams. The competition center will be located at Valmiera Viestura Secondary School, Viestura aleja 3.

Over ten years, the Latvian Orienteering Night has become one of the most anticipated autumn mass sports events in Latvia. Last year, the competition in 21 cities gathered a record number of participants – 6107 people in 1982 teams. This year, the anniversary event will take place in already 22 Latvian cities, including Valmiera.

The competition will take place in a three-hour rogaining format. Teams of 2–5 people will receive a map with checkpoints and plan their route themselves to collect the highest possible number of points within the set time. The Orienteering Night is suitable for both experienced orienteerers and beginners, families with children, teams of friends and colleagues. Participants will be able to compete in OPEN, women's, family and veteran groups.

Competition program on September 18:

from 18.30 – receipt of participant numbers;

from 19.00 – receipt of maps;

20.00 – joint start;

23.00 – finish;

around 23.15 – award ceremony.

Checking in at checkpoints will take place using the QREvented app by scanning QR codes, so each team needs a charged mobile phone with the ability to install the app. Since the competition will take place during the dark hours of the day, participants must also take care of reflectors and flashlights.

Participation is free of charge. Registration for the competition – until September 14 at 23.59 on the website rogaining.lv/onakts/.

The winners of each participant group will be awarded with medals, and after the award ceremony, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle of prizes provided by sponsors.

The Latvian Orienteering Night in Valmiera is organized by the Latvian Orienteering Federation in cooperation with partners, Valmiera Municipality, Valmiera Viestura Secondary School and the orienteering club “Ziemeļvidzemes orientēšanās centrs”. The event is co-financed by Valmiera Municipality.
