Contemporary sculpture works will be exhibited in the urban environment of Kuldīga, honoring the centenary of Līvija Rezevska.

From May 23, a selection of contemporary sculpture works will be on view in the urban environment of Kuldīga, simultaneously forming a dialogue with the outstanding Latvian sculptor Līvija Rezevska, marking her 100th anniversary year. The works of several artists in the urban environment reflect on issues of existence, creativity, female experience, and the development of civilization, creating a multi-layered and contemporary perspective on sculpture.

Liene Mackus in her work “Meitene ar ūdens krūzi” offers a contemporary interpretation of one of Līvija Rezevska's motifs. The artist deliberately chooses a light, free line as a counterpart to the physically heavy process of sculpture, reflecting on the female experience in art. The work is also personal – Rezevska is an important figure for the artist, whose name is also present in family stories, symbolically connecting several generations. The work is created as a large-format canvas banner and will be on view in the Castle Garden, next to the museum, by the wooden house.

Olga Šilova in her sculpture “Laktācija” uses a strong metaphor for the creative process as the creation of life. The creation of the artwork is likened to a mother's experience – carrying, feeding, and protecting ideas. The material and form of the sculpture emphasize the physical and emotional investment, while its exhibition above the water surface creates a reflection – in both visual and symbolic terms. The work refers to themes significant in Rezevska's oeuvre – the role of a woman, creative power, and the continuity of life. The work will be on view in the mill pond of Alekšupīte.

Artist Solveiga Vasiļjeva's work “Viesis” from the cycle “Jaunās eksistences formas” addresses the theme of the origin of life and future civilizations. Inspired by the sculptures of ancient Egypt's III Dynasty, the author creates a vision of biologically technical beings – an intermediate state between a human, an organism, and an artificially created form. The work prompts thought about human development, the cyclical nature of knowledge, and the influence of unknown forces on civilizations. It is exhibited opposite the Needle Factory, symbolically resonating with Līvija Rezevska's creative heritage and the universal values included in her works. The work will be on view in the green area near the Needle Factory.

Meanwhile, Nils Jumītis's metal sculpture “Sidraba baba” is made of stainless steel, combining the durability of the material with visual fragility. The mirror surface of the sculpture engages the viewer in the perception process, allowing them to become part of the work. It reveals itself as a changing archetype – a space where identity continuously transforms between light, material, and gaze, while simultaneously resonating with the creative presence of Līvija Rezevska. The work will be on view in the courtyard of the residence on Pils Street.

The exhibition works in the urban environment form a dialogue between the past and the present, between classical sculpture and contemporary interpretations, offering viewers a diverse and personal experience.

The works will be on view in the urban environment of Kuldīga until the autumn season of 2026.
