From September 24 to October 4, Kuldīga film lovers will also have the opportunity to become part of a global event – the 29th International Short Film Festival MANHATTAN SHORT. During this time, more than 100,000 viewers in more than 500 cities on six continents will gather in cinemas, museums, libraries and universities to watch and vote for the best short films from around the world.
For the first time in its history, MANHATTAN SHORT has selected ten films from ten countries – the MANHATTAN SHORT 2026 program consists of works from the USA, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Moldova, Cuba, Georgia and Mexico, (the Russian film is not included in the Latvian festival program). “Since the events of September 11, 2001, my vision for this festival has been to create a kind of film Olympics – an event consisting of ten quality short films from ten different countries uniting the world; and finally in 2026 we have succeeded. I look forward to the reaction of viewers around the world,” says Nicholas Mason, founder and director of the MANHATTAN SHORT film festival. Films are screened in their original languages with subtitles in Latvian and Russian. World voting results will be published on the festival website www.ManhattanShort.com after the end of the festival.
