Balets "Bahčisarajas strūklaka"

Russian composer and leading musicologist of the last century Boris Asafyev's ballet "The Fountain of Bakhchisaray" is a poetic story about different "faces" of love – passion, jealousy, cruelty, and tenderness.

The Polish girl Maria sets the heart of Crimean Khan Giray on fire, the hot-blooded Tatar captures Maria and brings her along to his harem. Here Maria experiences a psychological war – the harem favorite Zarema attacks and kills the Polish woman in a fit of jealousy. Khan Giray soothes his pain by gazing into the Tears Fountain, whose water babble leads him into the past, and feelings come alive again...
