Fairytale princes and princesses, good and evil fairies, various miraculous characters from favorite childhood fairy tales come to life together in a ballet for which Pyotr Tchaikovsky created wonderful music and allowed to believe in the dream of true love that conquers all.
Choreographer Aivars Leimanis: "For the LNO ballet troupe, the new production of "The Sleeping Beauty" is not only a joyful event, but also a matter of honor.
"The Sleeping Beauty" is the standard of classical ballet. It requires impeccable sense of style from dancers, especially refined arm and leg positions.
"The Sleeping Beauty" possesses its own romanticism, special elegance. Moreover, it is a very suitable ballet for our troupe with many larger and smaller roles, technical dances created not only for the leading soloists, but also for fairies, gemstones, and other role dancers. This ballet can also boast of, in my opinion, one of the most difficult female roles in classical ballet in general – the role of Princess Aurora, which is within the power of only the best ballerinas."
The production retains Marius Petipa's original choreography, supplemented with some new dances staged taking into account the capabilities of the LNO ballet troupe.
