4. Vidzemes lībiskās kultūrtelpas starptautiskā konference

We invite you to the 4th Vidzeme Livonian Cultural Space international conference on Saturday, 19 September, at the Limbaži Municipality Main Library, Parka iela 23.

The conference begins at 14.00 (arrival from 13.30).

Conference theme: LIVONIAN HERITAGE IN HOUSE NAMES AND PLACE NAMES

14.00-15.30 researchers' presentations:

"West Vidzeme house names from ancient times to the present day from the perspective of a geographer-cartographer", Mg. geogr. Otīlija Kovaļevska, senior lexicographer of the Toponymy Laboratory of the Cartography Department of the Latvian Geospatial Information Agency (LĢIA).

"Livonian, Estonian, Latvian or German name? Research of borderland place names based on the name of one single farmstead Ķempi ~Kembi", Prof. Karl Pajusalu (Karl Pajusalu), University of Tartu.

"The permanent and the changing in Latvian place names: in the context of the Vidzeme Livonian cultural space", Dr. philol. Anta Trumpa and Dr. philol. Sanda Rapa, leading researchers of the University of Latvia Institute of Latvian Language.

15.30-16.00 coffee break

16.00-16.20 Results and main conclusions of the Vidzeme Livonian cultural space house name research, PhD Lolita Ozoliņa, head of the Vidzeme Livonian cultural space.

16.20-18.20 local historians' presentations:

"Houses, farmsteads and people in the former territory of the Aloja parish from the 17th to the 20th century", Līga Moderniece, chief bibliographer in local history at the Aloja Library, Association "Elmed".

"Words that preserve history. Place names and house names of the Staicele area - Livonian heritage on the banks of the Salaca", Indra Jaunzeme, head of the Staicele Livonian Museum "Pivālind".

"House names - bearers of Livonian evidence in Lēdurga parish", Līvija Gridjuško, head of the Association "Smailes".

"Was Tenis Nuķis a Livonian: the path of the Nuķi family from Rozēni parish to the Ķerza tavern", Agita Lapsa, local history specialist, expert at the Valmiera Library.

During the conference, an exhibition of children's and young people's drawings "What does my home mean to me?" will be opened.

Attendance at the conference is free of charge.

The event will be photographed and filmed.
