Pasaules talka Beberbeķu dabas parkā
Sunday, 20. September10:00· Beberbeķu dabas parks
On September 20, World Cleanup Day, we invite the residents of the municipality to go to Beberbeķi Nature Park to jointly limit the spread of the spiked cornel and take care of the nature park's landscape and biological diversity.
Beberbeķi Nature Park is an important natural area where various plant and animal species are found. To preserve the diversity of the natural ecosystem, it is necessary to limit the spread of invasive and non-native species. One such species is the spiked cornel – a shrub that forms dense stands and competes with Latvia's natural plants. Therefore, this year during World Cleanup Day, special attention will be paid to limiting the spiked cornel, with cleanup participants jointly freeing part of the nature park territory from this invasive species.
At the beginning of the cleanup, Gatis Eriņš, Chief Specialist of Biological Diversity and Habitat Protection at SIA “Rīgas meži”, will share knowledge about invasive species. This will be an excellent opportunity for those present not only to do practical work for nature but also to learn more about invasive species and their impact on our forest ecosystems.
After the cleanup, the collected shrubs, roots, and stumps will be delivered for appropriate disposal to prevent their re-rooting and spreading in the natural area. Cleanup participants will be provided with the necessary work tools, gloves, and a place to rest. After the joint work, there will be an opportunity to warm up with tea, soup, and informative conversations, because World Cleanup Day is not just physical work, it is also an opportunity to spend time together in nature.
We invite the residents of the municipality and anyone interested to become part of this initiative and jointly take care of Beberbeķi Nature Park! Every participant, by helping with even a couple of hours of their time, can make a significant contribution to the preservation of natural diversity.
See you on September 20 at 10:00 in Beberbeķi Nature Park – at the lake swimming area (coordinates for navigation systems 56.929653, 23.922246)!
