"Brīvdienu pieci" - 5 km skrējiens

From April to October 2026, residents and guests of Ķekava municipality are invited to participate in the free sports activity “Brīvdienu Pieci 2026”, which will take place in Baloži, on the forest track near the Baloži Secondary School sports complex.

“Brīvdienu Pieci” is a friendly 5-kilometer run, the aim of which is to promote a healthy lifestyle and regular physical activity. The initiator of the activity is Baloži resident Agate Gailīte, who was inspired by the globally popular “parkrun” concept, which is based on the idea of an accessible, inclusive and supportive sports environment for everyone.

The event will take place in seven stages, on the first Saturday of each month from 10.00 to 12.00, starting from April 4, 2026. An exception is planned for July – the run will take place on Sunday, July 5, 2026. Participants will have to cover a 5 km distance consisting of two marked 2.5 km loops.

Participants of all ages and various physical fitness levels are invited to participate in the activities. Participation is free of charge. Prior registration is possible on the website sports.kekava.lv/brivdienupieci, and there will also be an opportunity to register on site on the day of the event. Each stage participant will receive an incentive prize, while those who participate in at least five out of seven activities during the season will receive a commemorative “Brīvdienu Pieci 2026” T-shirt. Honoring of participants is scheduled for November 7, 2026.

The sports activity is organized by the Baloži Sports Initiative Center of the Ķekava Municipality Sports Center in cooperation with the author of the resident initiative Agate Gailīte. Everyone is invited – come move, enjoy nature and spend active weekends in Baloži!
