Birutas Jansones personālizstādes “Ceļš” atklāšana

From September 19 to November 14, 2026, visitors will be welcome at the Exhibition House of the Valmiera Museum to walk through the life event stations of the personal exhibition “Ceļš” by Biruta Jansone, a well-known artist, painter and art pedagogue to many residents of Valmiera and the region, and to look at her creative contribution – drawings, watercolors and paintings. Both newer and older works from the author's own private collection, as well as the collection of the Latvian National Museum of Art and the Valmiera Museum, will be on display.

The opening of the exhibition* and meeting with the artist will take place on September 19 at 13.00. Entrance during the event is free of charge.

In the middle of the 1970s, Biruta Jansone, together with her spouse, also an artist, Jānis Roberts Jansons and two small children, already waiting for the third one to be born soon, jumped into the unknown and moved from Riga to live in Valmiera. In 1976, being one of the creators of the professional-oriented education model in the Latvian region, they founded the Valmiera Children's Art School and Biruta became its director (1976–1979, 1981–1990). Later, the path led to “Akmeņkalni” of Skaņkalne parish near Mazsalaca, where with the care of both, an art school was also created, which can certainly be called a life project. More than 25 years have been dedicated to work in this Northern Vidzeme side. Both in Valmiera and especially in “Akmeņkalni”, with great heartfelt love, students of several generations have been given a path forward both in art, unleashing their imagination and developing creativity, and in inseparable life wisdoms. It is thanks to the Jansons family that many young people have also chosen their future path to professionally connect with art.

At one time, Biruta Jansone was also an enterprising activator of local women, so that everyone together could focus on various educational, practical activities and acquire new, useful knowledge. Ladies' clubs were established in Sēļi, “Akmeņkalni”, Mazsalaca. Furthermore, Biruta was a member of the Valmiera Zonta Club for many years and has also received the Recognition awarded by it.

Biruta Jansone, both individually and together with her spouse and other artists, has been participating in exhibitions both in Latvia and abroad since 1976. Her works have also been on display at the Valmiera Museum in the past. They are located in the collection of the Museum of the Latvian Artists' Union, the Latvian Art Fund of the Latvian National Museum of Art, the “Ludwig” Museum in Cologne and private collections in Latvia, Denmark, Germany, France, Canada, etc.

In 2018, Biruta Jansone received the Cross of Recognition for merits for the benefit of the Latvian state – long-term creative contribution to art pedagogy and cultural work.

The Jansons family has eleven grandchildren and now eight great-grandchildren. Currently, the daily life of Biruta and Jānis passes in Slampe, Tukums Municipality. The days flow more calmly, but art is still being created and both participate in exhibitions.
