An unprecedented opportunity to view the photo exhibition “Portreti” by the renowned photographer Andrejs Grants!
Andrejs Grants' work has significantly influenced the development of Latvian photography; he is known for black-and-white documentary photography, in which the reflection of reality intertwines with a personal viewpoint. A master of black-and-white photography who has actively participated in countless exhibitions in Latvia and abroad, and his photographs are included in important collections.
Andrejs Grants began working with author photography in the 1970s, refining this language at the photo studio “Ogre” under Egon Spur, whom he considers his teacher. In the 1980s, photo education continued by learning from life and also cooperating with enthusiasts of the so-called subjective documentary photography (E. Spur's term) of his generation (Ints Ruka, Gvido Kajons, Mārtiņš Zelmenis, Valts Kleins, etc.).
The author has also had an inspiring collaboration with the Talsi artists' group in the thematic exhibitions it organised (Plūdi Talsos. 1987; Talsu gods. 1998; Talsu tiesa. 2005).
The photographs in the exhibition were taken in the early 21st century with an analogue (film) camera and handmade on silver-gelatin photographic paper. The people immortalised in the photo portraits are the author's contemporaries, whom he has happened to meet while living at the same time. Most of the photographs seen in the exhibition have not been published before.
Opening of the exhibition on 19 September, at 15.00 in the Creative Yard of the Talsu Kultūras centrs!
