18. septembrī Smiltenē norisināsies jubilejas Latvijas Orientēšanās nakts

On Friday, September 18, Smiltene will be one of 22 Latvian cities to host the tenth Latvijas Orientēšanās nakts – a free three-hour rogaining competition for teams. The competition center will be located at Smiltene High School, Dakteru iela 27.

Over ten years, Latvijas Orientēšanās nakts has become one of the most anticipated autumn mass sports events in Latvia. Last year, the competition in 21 cities gathered a record number of participants – 6107 people in 1982 teams. This year, the anniversary event will take place in already 22 Latvian cities, including Smiltene.

The competition will take place in a three-hour rogaining format. Teams of 2–5 people will receive a map with control points and will plan their route themselves to collect as many points as possible within the specified time. Orientēšanās nakts is suitable for both experienced orienteers and beginners, families with children, teams of friends and colleagues. Participants will be able to start in OPEN, women's, family and veteran groups.

Competition schedule in Smiltene on September 18:

from 18.30 – receipt of participant numbers;

from 19.00 – receipt of maps;

20.00 – mass start;

23.00 – finish;

around 23.15 – awarding.

Checking in at control points will take place using the QREvented app by scanning QR codes, therefore each team needs a charged mobile phone with the ability to install the app. Since the competition will take place in the dark hours of the day, participants must also take care of reflectors and pocket flashlights.

Participation is free of charge. Registration for the competition – until September 14 at 23.59 on the website rogaining.lv/onakts/.

Winners of each participant group will be awarded with medals, and after the awarding, participants will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle of prizes provided by sponsors.

Latvijas Orientēšanās nakts in Smiltene is organized by Latvijas Orientēšanās federācija in cooperation with partners, Smiltene municipality administration, Smiltene High School and orienteering club “Azimuts”. The event is co-financed by Smiltene municipality administration.
